On March 23, 2017, State Councilor Yang Jiechi held telephone talks with Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat during his visit to Africa.
Yang Jiechi congratulated Moussa Faki Mahamat on his election as Chairperson of the AU Commission, and expressed that China will actively support Moussa Faki Mahamat to fulfill his duty as Chairperson to play an important role in enhancing unity, maintaining peace and advancing development in Africa. Yang Jiechi said that China is willing to, together with the AU Commission, intensify communication and coordination, actively implement the ten major China-Africa cooperation plans announced by President Xi Jinping, and jointly discuss and establish a closer strategic cooperative partnership under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation framework. China will actively promote the UN, the G20 and other international organizations to support and help African countries to safeguard peace and security and implement Agenda 2063. China stands ready to maintain communication and coordination with the AU in major international and regional issues, so as to jointly well maintain the interests of China, Africa and developing countries.
Moussa Faki Mahamat expressed that attaching great importance to China's international position and function, the AU always views and develops Africa-China relations from a strategic perspective. African countries appreciate that China consistently supports African people to solve African issues in African ways, thank China for its long-term and important contributions to promoting peace and development in Africa, and hope to learn from China's development experience to further deepen friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation with China in various fields, in a bid to achieve win-win cooperation and common development.
